Moonviewing - Otsukimi

Join us for our annual Otsukimi event and watch the moon rise over the pine tees of Shofuso’s beautiful garden.
Otsukimi In ancient times, the tradition of Otsukimi, or moon viewing, began when farmers made offerings of pampas grass and bush clover to the full moon to ensure a good harvest. The royal court celebrated by gathering beneath the full moon to write poems and drink sake. Today, Otsukimi parties are held on the first full moon in autumn to enjoy good times with friends and family. A small arrangement of susuki and hagi (pampas grass and bush clover) is offered to help wishes come true.
