Join volunteers and members to clean the house and garden in preparation for seasonal opening. Enjoy a delicious Japanese lunch prepared by members.

4.13 Sun Sakura Sunday Tours 11:30 am – 4 pm free admission
Join Shofuso and JASGP for the 11th annual Cherry Blossom Festival. Visit Shofuso between 11:30-4:00 to see Hina and Samurai Dolls.

4.19 Sat Nodate Tea (Cherry Blossom Tea) 1 pm & 2:30 pm $28/$25 members
Tea is served nodate style on the veranda under the blooming cherry tree as the finale to the Cherry Blossom Festival.

5.10 Sat Seijin Shiki 11 am – 4 pm $50 per photography session
Have your photograph taken in a kimono at the Japanese house. For girls who have turned 20 or any woman who is 20 at heart and wants to dress up
in a beautiful kimono and have her photo taken. Kimono rentals for added fee. Professional photography by Simbarashe Madziva.

5.10 Sat Japanese Garden Design Principles Workshop $18 PHS and Shofuso members
1 pm – 3 pm $23 non-members
Learn the basic principles behind Japanese Garden design with this lecture and tour program by Harriet Henderson. Co-sponsored with the PA Horticultural

5.11 Sun Mother’s Day Tea Ceremony 1 pm & 2:30 pm $28/$25 members
Experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony led by a local tea master on Mother’s Day. Learn about the history and principles of Chanoyu (tea ceremony),
drink a bowl of matcha (green tea) and taste a seasonal sweet. Space is limited & reservations are required (215-878-5097).

6.7 Sat Day of Relaxation 10 am – 1 pm (house will be open to the public 1 - 5pm) $150/$125 members
Leave your cares behind, if only for a day. Guests will have exclusive use of the site while they enjoy a tension-melting shiatsu massage, a meditative
tea ceremony, time to view the garden, and a light vegetarian lunch. Space is limited, reservations required (215-878-5097).

Shofuso and the Japanese Association of Greater Philadelphia co-present a family festival celebrating Japanese culture with live performances, hands-on
activities and food. No reservation required.

Send your child (ages 8-12) to summer camp to learn about Japanese arts and culture through hands-on activities. $50 non-refundable deposit required

7.26 Sat Ghost Party 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm (18 and older, no children please) $12/$6 members
Summertime is ghost time in Japan, when people tell scary stories that chill the blood to try and beat the heat. Shofuso and the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia co-present a Japanese Ghost costume party where you can encounter other spooks, hear terrifying tales and engage in other traditional Japanese activities. See a beautiful display of Bonsai trees in the perfect setting at Shofuso. On Sat at 2 pm, tour the display with Mike Marinelli, President of the PA Bonsai Society.

10.4, 5 Sat, Sun Shichi Go San 11 am – 4 pm $50 per photography session
maximum of 2 children per session; kimono rental $30 per child; assistance dressing child in his or her own kimono $10.
Celebrate 7-5-3 at Shofuso. Have your child’s 7-5-3 photograph taken at the Japanese House and Garden. Photo appt is 20 minutes.

10.11 Sat Moonviewing (Otsukimi) 6 pm – 9 pm $50 non-members/$45 members
Enjoy sushi and sake, sing songs and celebrate a successful harvest while watching the moon rise over the pine trees.
Space is limited and reservations are required by sending reservation form with payment by October 2. No tickets at the door.
10.19 Sun Omotesenke Tea TBA $28/$25 members
Experience an Omotosenke Japanese tea ceremony led by a New York tea master.
